Danville Police are cautioning the public about some recent armed attempted auto thefts. Bill Pickett has the story…
Police say two suspects have been targeting Kia and Hyundai vehicles with models ranging from 2010 to 2022. Police warn the suspects are armed and have fired shots towards victims who attempted to interfere. None of the victims were hurt, but these suspects should be considered extremely dangerous according to police.
Danville Police say you should not intervene. For your safety, do not approach or attempt to confront these individuals. If you observe suspicious activity or attempted vehicle theft you should:
- Move immediately to a safe location.
- Call 911.
- Provide as much information as possible (such as the location, direction of travel, and descriptions).
Police also offered these safety tips for vehicle owners:
- Lock your vehicle at all times.
- Remove keys and valuables.
- Use additional anti-theft devices when available.
- Park in well-lit or secure areas.
- Stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activity.
Anyone with information related to these incidents is urged to contact the Danville Police Department at 217-431-2250. You can also submit an anonymous tip through Vermilion County Crimestoppers using the mobile app P3TIPS or by calling 217-446-TIPS.
