The Danville Fire Department hosted “Firefighters at the Fischer” Wednesday (Jan 14th) evening at Danville’s historic theater. Captain and Training Officer Ryan Allison from the Danville Fire Department stated that when on the scene training is not quite as common in the winter, it’s good to find a place to get area firefighters together for some important education.
AUDIO: We’ve got to make sure that our guys are prepared for the right mindset. So, classes like tonight are about trying to help firefighters understand the dangers that they are presented with; and being mentally prepared to go into these situations.

The guest speaker was Isaac Frazier of the Wichita, Kansas fire department. He was presenting a program called “Wichita Rescue – First Hand Account,” about a rescue situation he was involved in back in 2003; rescuing a woman from a basement, along McComas Street in Wichita. Frazier says there is much to share about that story that can certainly be applied locally.
AUDIO: That’s the main thing, searching for victims in homes. Regardless of it, homes in Wichita or its homes here, you know 2 1/2 story balloons, or the big homes around here; are very similar to what we search in. So, it’s a search for people in house fires.
Frazier says the number one lesson is to always never assume a burning home is empty.
AUDIO: They’re always occupied. They’re always occupied until we get in there and search, and prove that they are or they aren’t.
Captain Ryan Allison said this was the second year in a row for “Firefighters at the Fischer,” and expressed hope that the Danville Fire Department could continue hosting these programs each winter.
