Danville District 118 School Board members heard an update last night on how Remote Learning is working. Parents and teachers are teaming to teach kids at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Numbers released during the meeting show most Danville schools have had more than a 75-percent response rate to Remote Learning. The submission of assignments range from a low of 20-percent to Danville High School’s 82-percent.
School Board president Bill Dobbles reacted to the numbers…
{‘’You know, it sounds like we’re really doing pretty well. I’m very pleased that our students are participating,’’ said Dobbles. ‘’It’s tough to work from home so that’s really impressive.’’}
Superintendent Alicia Geddis says she expects to learn more today in a conference call about the criteria for promotion to the next grade level.
And Danville High School Principal Tracy Cherry is meeting with some students and administrators today to discuss graduation. ‘’We want to celebrate our kids,’’ said Cherry. She says they have some ideas for a graduation ceremony possibly in August.
Meanwhile, Dobbles is looking ahead to next year….
{‘’For me, I would think it’s unlikely that school will be the same next semester as it’s been all along. We’ll still have challenges and we’ll have to figure out a way to do it. I really am interested in trying to get more online classes for anybody that has to miss if we still have to go through this. Or, if we have to rearrange our schedule.’’}
School board member Lon Henderson says he would like to see the district hold free food distributions on Danville’s east side. But Superintendent Alicia Geddis says the District is already partnering with the Housing Authority of Danville and the Hope Center.
