Numbers released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security are showing increases in the unemployment rates in both Vermilion County and Danville for November to December; with both coming in with higher unemployment rates than one year ago as well.
Unemployment in Vermilion County showed an increase from 5.8% in November to 6.5% in December. Vermilion County’s rate came in at 5.5% in December of 2024.
For the City of Danville, unemployment increased from 6.7% in November to 7.0% in December. Danville stood at 6.6% in December of 2024.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed a drop of 350 jobs from December of 2024 to December of 2025, with the total number of non-farm jobs coming in at 25,250.
In looking at specific categories, employment over the last year increased in Private Education – Health Services by 125 jobs, and in Natural Resources – Mining by 25 jobs.
Meanwhile, there were drops of 275 jobs in Professional – Business Services, 75 in Government, 50 in Trade – Transportation – Utilities, and 25 in the Manufacturing, Construction, and Financial Activities categories.
There were no changes over the past year in the Information, Leisure – Hospitality, and Other Services categories.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
