The Illinois Primary Election is still nearly three weeks away, but some area residents have already cast their votes. Bill Pickett has the story….
Vermilion County Clerk Robyn Heffern described Wednesday how early voting has been going in that office…
{AUDIO: “It’s going good. It’s going slow, but steady. We’ve had around 225 voters so far.” (Bill Pickett asks: “Now, if people want to vote early, what do they do?) (Heffern replies:) “They just come in. They tell us their name, and we’ll look you up and verify your signature.”}
Sandra Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, described early voting in the city Wednesday….
{AUDIO: “We’ve had about 144 so far. …A lot of people kind of stay away from voting in the primaries because they have to declare a party. And a lot of people just don’t want to put that information out there. They’d rather just wait and vote in the November election.”}
Both Heffern and Delhaye noted Grace Period Registration and Voting is currently underway. Delhaye described what that means…
{AUDIO: “Grace Period is where – let’s say that a person comes in and wants to register to vote. They have to also be able and wanting to vote at the same time. In other words, they can’t register to vote, go back, and leave and come back the next day and vote.”}
Both the Danville Election Commission and Vermilion County Clerk’s Office are adding extended hours for voting early. Both offices will be open from 9:00 a.m. until noon over the next three Saturdays…February 28th and March 7th and 14th.
