Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says he is not surprised with Governor JB Pritzker’s decision to extend the stay-at-home order regarding the coronavirus outbreak….
{‘’Over a thousand new cases a day – number of deaths are hovering around a hundred per day – that’s really not the point when you want to say ‘well, the worse is behind us. Lets start opening things back up again.’’
The Governor announced Thursday that he had decided to extend the stay at home order – but with some revisions – through May.
Melissa Rome, Emergency Planning and Preparedness Coordinator for the Vermilion County Health Department, and Administrator Toole were guests on WDAN Radio’s Newsmakers Program Friday. Rome is concerned that some people who have been diagnosed locally with the COVID-19 coronavirus were not showing any symptoms…..
{‘’I’m 99.9 percent sure we have many, many cases in the community, but lots of people are not showing symptoms. And so it’s who you are exposed to. And if you have any underlying conditions and you’re exposed to that person – then you are in a lot of trouble,’’ said Rome. ‘’So that’s the reason, too, as why it’s so important still to stay home if you can or wear a mask.’’}
Vermilion County has had eleven people test positive for the disease (as of midday Friday).
