A triple crown of familiar issues came up during the ‘public comment’ section of Tuesday (Mar 3rd) night’s Danville City Council meeting. Later in the meeting the Council did approve what the Public Works Committee had previously passed; allowing for the transfer of grant funding for about $226,000 in improvements at the Danville Rescue Mission adult men’s homeless shelter at 213 North Bowman. It was DeeAnn Ryan who said that’s great, but there’s much more work to do.
AUDIO: We have a big need for families and children; women and children. We don’t have anywhere for them to stay the night when it’s freezing or smeltering out. So, I just want to keep the conversation going; and not let anybody think that we’ve done enough.
Meanwhile, Diana Schult had returned to talk more about Lynch Road area semi trouble, with trucks making deliveries to Sygma on Southgate Drive just parking on County Road 2100E and blocking traffic prior to their deliveries. Police Chief Christopher Yates said yes, they’ve written tickets out there; but the problem is the drivers of these non-Sygma trucks just making deliveries often drive the route just once, and the next time its new drivers. Schult says the solution here is simply better communication.

DeeAnn Ryan, Diana Schult, and Katie Osterbur take their turns addressing the Danville City Council during “public comment.”
AUDIO: I believe that Sygma needs to provide a solution to the city, because the trucks are delivering to Sygma. Therefore, it’s Sygma’s problem. That’s my opinion. When they built that facility, they should’ve had plans; and the city should’ve required them to have plans, to have some type of staging.
Finally, Katie Osterbur from Keep Vermilion County Beautiful reminded everyone that their annual clean-up day to prepare the Danville Area Community College and surrounding area for the National Junior College Division II (NJCAA) basketball tournament will be Saturday morning, March 14th.
AUDIO: We are going to meet in the front parking lot of DACC, you will see the Pride Grow Trailer, from 10 to 12. And this is just a great opportunity for our community to come out; make a very visible impact to reduce the litter, as we welcome all of the people coming for this tournament the following week.
That national tournament, at DACC once again; begins on Monday, March 16th.
