People v. Marquil Brown 2025-CF-868
On March 3, 2026, Marquil Brown, (DOB: 9/3/1989) formerly of Danville, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Unlawful Possession of Weapon by Felon, a class 2 felony, and was sentenced to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Following his term of imprisonment, Brown will serve a term of 12 months mandatory supervised release. The plea and sentencing were presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin.
The People presented evidence that on November 14, 2025, the Danville Police Department was dispatched to a residence in the area of East Main Street after receiving a report that an individual had entered the home and displayed a firearm. Officers spoke with witnesses who stated they were moving items into the residence when Marquil Brown arrived and entered without permission. Witnesses reported that Brown appeared frantic and told them the police were looking for him. Witnesses reported that, while inside the residence, Brown changed his clothes multiple times and displayed a small silver handgun with a black grip. Witnesses stated
that Brown racked the slide of the handgun in front of them and placed it on his hip. The witnesses told police that when Brown went into the kitchen, they exited the residence and called 911. The Danville Police Department Emergency Response Unit responded to the scene to assist and conducted a search of the residence. Officers located an AMT Backup .380/9mm handgun hidden inside a Monopoly game box in the basement. The firearm matched the witnesses’ description. Brown was found inside the residence and denied possessing the gun. Brown had previously been convicted of a forcible felony, making it illegal for him to possess a firearm.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “I would like to thank the witnesses who came forward to report this crime. I would also like to thank the officers of the Danville Police Department and the Emergency Response Unit, who quickly located this defendant and took him into custody. Criminals with prior forcible felony convictions are prohibited from possessing firearms. This prison sentence holds the defendant accountable and helps to protect our community.”
