THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
On March 30, 2026, at approximately 10:20 a.m., the Danville Police Department was notified that a vehicle was driving erratically in the area of Vermilion Street and Liberty Street. An officer responded to the area and observed the vehicle pulling out of a business in the 3600 block of N. Vermilion Street. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Norman Potts, 54, of Danville, refused and continued at a high rate of speed.
Potts continued, driving into oncoming traffic, where he struck another vehicle attempting to turn into a business in the 3900 block of N. Vermilion Street.
Potts was taken into custody at that time. A search of Potts’ person and vehicle uncovered approximately 100 grams of suspected fentanyl and approximately 50 grams of suspected cannabis.
Potts was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where he was later discharged and transported to the Vermilion County Jail on the preliminary charges of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, and Driving While License Suspended.
The driver of the other vehicle that Potts struck was treated on scene and released.
The Danville Police Department reminds the public that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
No other information will be released at this time.
