From the 3 PM hour on Thursday (Apr 2nd) afternoon, an Early Learning Resource Fair for pre-K children and their families was happening in the Danville High School Fieldhouse. But it wasn’t just a chance to get children interested in things. Karel Volpert was there with a team from Fair Hope Children’s Ministries. She said letting families with small children know what’s available to them was a high priority.
AUDIO: To let families know about different services that are available in the area. And so we’re here to share about our clothing, and other items that we have to help the community.
When it came to getting children interested in something, Fire Inspector Tim McFadden from the Danville Fire Department was there. He compared his job at the event to something the Fire Department is known for every October.

AUDIO: It’s similar to what we provide during Fire Prevention Week. We’re out here meeting with parents as well as the kids today; handing out fire prevention material, coloring books, other materials that preach fire safety; showing how to prevent emergencies before they happen.
Then there was Danville Public Library Community Relations Administrator Brooke Truscelli; who reminded us of the importance of libraries to children of all ages.
AUDIO: And learning is more that just reading the books together. It’s interacting; and those kids having time to interact with other kids their age, and learn those social skills. And parents sitting down and really reading with their children, not just to them.

And with the ages of the children stopping by, no surprise that they didn’t have ONE bounce house in the DHS Fieldhouse, but TWO of them.
