Upcoming Events at Danville Public Library – April 19 – April 25, 2026
*National Library Week! This week, we celebrate the libraries, library workers, and communities that make reading, learning, and connection possible. This year’s theme is Find Your Joy, with honorary chair Mychal Threets reminding us that joy belongs in libraries. From Right to Read Day to Library Workers Day, Outreach Day, and Take Action for Libraries Day, we’re proud to support access, advocacy, and a love of books today and always.
2026 Hoopla Reading Challenge: Join Hoopla’s year-long challenge! Each month, explore a new curated collection of books, audiobooks, and comics on Hoopla, then pick one (or more!) to enjoy. Mixtape: The Books That Shaped Mychal ThreetsReading Challenge. Join us on Beanstack April 1 – May 31, in celebration of National Library Week’s theme, Find Your Joy. Rubber Ducky Readers: Join this fun Beanstack Challenge! For every 10 books read, the child will get a rubber duck, every 100 books equal a book, a sticker and a certificate, 1000 books equal a goody bag filled with a book, a sticker, a completion certificate, a stuffed animal, a blow-up rubber duck, etc. This challenge is for ages 0-6. April 20: Children’s Wonder Garden Club. Gardening event for children and families. This program is made possible through a partnership with the University of Illinois Extension Office. This month, we will be making Earth Day Seed Bombs! 4:30 PM in the Program Room.
April 21: Teen Crafternoons. Tuesdays = your creative time. Hang out and make cool stuff. No sign-up, no stress. Just show up and create something awesome! This week: Earth Day Tote Bag – Color and personalize your own reusable tote! 3:30 – 4:30 PM in the 2nd Floor Teen Space. Ages 13 – 19.
April 21: Tween It! Tuesdays. Fun programs for tweens each Tuesday. This week: BINGO! Come play Bingo and win prizes. 5:00 PM in the Program Room. Ages 8-12.
April 21:Vermilion County Master Gardeners. Join Vermilion County Master Gardeners for a seminar at Danville Public Library. This month, talk “Unusual Tomatoes and Other Vegetables to Grow with a Panel of VC Master Gardeners at 5:30 p.m. in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room. Call 217-442-8615 for more information.
April 21: Wee Wigglers Story Time. Join us for action rhymes, stories, and songs for children ages 5 and under – Tuesdays at 10:00 AM in the Program Room.
April 22: Teen Writing Club. Come write, chill, and connect. No pressure – just good vibes, cool ideas, and a space to be creative. Journals and pens will be provided for our teen writers, along with writing prompts and snacks to fuel your mind. Every Wednesday, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm in the 2nd Floor Teen Space.
April 23: Lit Fit with Mandy. Join us Thursdays starting in April for a dance fitness series that’s as fun as your favorite book. All fitness levels welcome. Bring your water bottle and wear clothes that can handle your best moves! 3:00 – 4:00 PM in the Program Room.
April 23: Silent Book Club. Celebrate World Book Night with our cozy, no-pressure gathering for readers of all kinds! Bring your own book or check one out, enjoy a quiet hour of reading, and connect with your community in a relaxed, welcoming space. No assigned reading, no expectations, just books and good company. 4:30 – 6:30 PM in the Program Room.
April 23: Teen “Movie Theater” Thursdays! Grab your friends and come chill at the library for a movie night featuring picks from our collection. Big Screen, Free Snacks, Your kind of movies! Every 4th Thursday of the Month. 4:30 – 6:45 PM in the Howard Rutan Meeting Room. Ages 13-19.
April 25: Story Time. Have a great time listening, interacting to stories and making a fun craft! Saturdays at 11:00 AM in the Children’s Department.
Adult/Teen Craft: Stop by the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor for a take & make craft! Starting April 1, Save the Bees with Wildflower Seedlings! While supplies last.
Coloring Contest for all ages: Color a picture and win a prize. Return entries by the end of the month. Entries will be displayed in the Children’s Room. Winners will be notified.
