Members of the Finance and Personnel Committee of the Vermilion County Board tabled a proposal last evening to hire a firm to study county-imposed fees. A proposal on the agenda called for approval of a fee study by Bellwether, LLC at a cost of $15-thousand dollars. County Board member Jim McMahon suggested doing the study using AI. “Have you ever thought of using AI”, asked McMahon. He added, “AI is doing business proposals.”
Some concern was raised as to whether AI could provide information needed to meet statutory requirements. Discussion on whether to hire a consultant to do the fee study is expected to resume next month. County Board member Jerry Hawker said he would rather see people who utilize certain county services pay a user fee instead of taxing everyone.
