The Illinois State Board of Education has supplied new information regarding how this year’s graduation and promotions will be handled. Danville District 118 Superintendant Alicia Geddis says school officials can now move forward….

The Illinois State Board of Education says for current high school seniors, the SAT and Constitution test requirements are waived due to Governor JB Pritzker’s earlier Executive Order.
Dr. Geddis adds the State Board is adamant that there will be no in-person graduation ceremonies this year due to COVID-19 concerns. But she adds District 118 has ‘’had plans on how to celebrate our students for awhile.’’ And she says more details will be announced after those plans go to the Danville School Board for approval.
Meanwhile, Associate Superintendent John Hart says remote learning for Pre-K through 6th grades continues to go very well. He notes the District’s first priority has been to make sure kids are safe during the on-going pandemic….

And then work on the school work,’’ said Hart. ‘’We’ve really received some positive Facebook. We have teachers that are doing extra. Maybe they’re reading stories or poems, or doing some things via Facebook Live. So, like I said it’s been really exciting. It’s definitely been a learning curve.’’}
District 118 distributed more than 10-thousand meals to support students last week, and a pilot program through the local McDonald’s Restaurants supplied over 3,000 additional meals.
