During Wednesday’s daily COVID-19 update, Illinois health officials reported 2,253 new cases with 92 additional deaths. State totals are now 50,355 cases including 2,215 deaths. Testing continues to increase with 14,478 processed for a total of 256,667 tests.
Governor JB Pritzker characterized a second legal challenge to his stay-at-home order as a “similarly irresponsible lawsuit.” State Rep. John Cabello (R-Machesney Park) filed a similar lawsuit as one that was successful earlier this week file by State Rep. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia). Bailey was the only plaintiff involved in the first lawsuit while Cabello’s lawsuit includes all Illinoisans. Both claim Pritzker does not have authority to extend a stay-at-home order beyond 30 days. Pritzker has appealed the first decision and said action has been taken to have the cases sent directly to the Illinois Supreme Court.
Governor Pritzker said he is preliminarily looking at the possibility of re-opening salons and hairdressers, but noted that social distancing is impossible at those shops. Pritzker said he will monitor states that have re-opened those businesses.
