A new ‘Whole Health Program’ at the V.A. Illiana Health Care System is helping veterans achieve their health goals. The program was launched nationwide earlier and at the Danville VA within the past year.
Misty Hillard is the coordinator of the ‘Whole Health’ program at the local VA….
{‘’Whole Health is really focused on seeing you as a whole person, and so that means helping you find out what matters most to you and how we can be in service of that. We want to bring resources to you that will help you along your health journey – wherever that may be – or you living your best life,’’ said Hillard.}
Hillard adds the program also offers services to help VA spouse and caregivers of veterans.
Clinical Psychologist Dr. Stephanie Holt of VA Illiana says part of the program is focused on helping veterans set goals….
{‘’We know that anytime someone wants to make a change it’s really hard. And so part of that is helping people recognize that change can be really small. And that’s wonderful. Little change can lead to big change,’’ said Dr. Holt. ‘’And so a big part of Whole Health is helping people set appropriate goals. Sometimes people set really huge goals that seem really wonderful on paper, but if you can’t achieve that at all and you fail – it’s really not worth it.’’}
Dr. Holt says they want to build confidence among veterans, so part of the program refers them to mental health help if that’s what is needed
