The 2018 farm bill brought in some new changes to the way farmers calculate subsidies, particularly among agriculture risk coverage and price/loss control. Those topics were discussed at a forum last night at the Vermilion County Farm Bureau.
University of Illinois professor Gary Schnitkey demonstrated for farmers in attendance how to use the UI’s FarmDocs website with help calculating information.
Schnitkey said the estimated average per bushel price for 2020 in Vermilion County is $3.85 for corn and $9 for beans. He said last year’s crops in Vermilion County were better off in the southern half of the county than the northern half. Country Financial representative Doug Yoder also spoke about crop insurance at Wednesday’s event.
Farm Docs is also hosting a webinar on Monday at 9 a.m. to discuss the information. The web address is farmdoc.illinois.edu.
