The Danville Fire Department will conduct a live-fire training exercise in an acquired structure on June 4, 2026, at 835 N John St., Danville, IL. The event was originally scheduled for May 12, 2026, but was rescheduled due to weather.
This training is required by the State of Illinois for new firefighter recruits attending the Champaign Fire Academy, which is hosted by the Danville Fire Department. The exercise gives recruits realistic, hands-on experience to help them better protect residents and property.
Neighbors may notice smoke in the area during the training. Only clean wood pallets will be burned. No carpet, plastics, or other synthetic materials will be burned, and any required asbestos abatement has been completed. The training will be conducted under the regulations and rules of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
Neighbors may also notice congested traffic on John Street. Please use caution when traveling on John Street, as firefighters may need to enter the roadway at times to obtain equipment from fire apparatus.
The public is welcome to watch from a safe distance. However, traffic and parking are very limited on John Street. Anyone wishing to view the training is asked to park in a public parking area outside of the John Street area and walk to the neighborhood.
Residents in the immediate area may notice temporary brown discoloration of water due to sediment in the pipes being stirred up by increased usage. Do not continuously flush the water; it will typically clear on its own within 2-8 hours. To report this issue, please contact Aqua Illinois at (217) 443-8538.
