THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
People v. Andrew Hill 2026-CF-152
On July 22, 2026, Andrew Hill (DOB: 7/17/2006), formerly of Bloomington, Illinois, pleaded guilty to Possession with Intent to Deliver 15-100 Grams of Cocaine, a class X felony, for 6 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The defendant also pleaded guilty to Obstructing Justice, a class 4 felony, for 3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Sentences will be served concurrently and the defendant will serve 18 months mandatory supervised release, following his release from prison. The plea and sentencing were presided over by Judge Mark S. Goodwin.
The People presented evidence that on March 10, 2026, Danville Police conducted a traffic stop for a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code in the area of Bowman and Main Streets. Upon approach of the vehicle, the officer attempted to identify the vehicle’s occupants. The defendant initially refused to provide his name, before identifying himself as “William C. Thomas,” claiming he could not remember his date of birth. The officer observed that the defendant appeared extremely nervous and was sweating profusely. After attempting to verify the information provided, the officer determined the defendant had given a false name. When asked to exit the vehicle, the defendant immediately offered to provide information about another individual allegedly possessing illegal drugs. Officers subsequently identified the defendant through his Illinois Identification Card as Andrew Hill, and determined that he had active arrest warrants. The defendant was taken into custody and transported to the Public Safety Building. During transport and book-in, law enforcement observed the defendant moving and walking erratically, consistent with someone attempting to conceal an object on his person. During a pat down search, correctional officers with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department felt an object concealed in the area of the defendant’s buttocks. A subsequent search recovered a softball-sized package, containing two smaller bags of a white, chalk-like substance suspected to be crack cocaine. The substance field-tested positive for the presence of cocaine. The defendant denied ownership of the cocaine, but told police that he uses cocaine, and knew it was a “dealer-amount of crack.” The substance was sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for testing and results returned positive for 22.7 grams of cocaine.
State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the Danville Police Department for their persistence in identifying this defendant and for their work in removing a drug dealer from the streets of Vermilion County. She also thanked the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department Correctional Officers for their assistance in this case.
