THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
On July 31, 2026, at 9:53 a.m., officers with the Danville Police Department responded to the 100 block of Fairweight Avenue for a gunshot fired into the air after an argument over leaving the dumpster lid open.
Upon arrival, officers spoke to witnesses and successfully called the suspect out of his apartment. David Jones, 42, of Danville, exited his apartment and peacefully surrendered to law enforcement.
Once Jones was secured, officers uncovered evidence suggesting that a gun was fired.
A search warrant was granted for the apartment.
While searching the apartment, Danville Police K9 Judd was deployed to the area surrounding it to conduct an article search. K9 Judd located the firearm in overgrown grass in the alleyway just east of the residence.
Jones was arrested on the preliminary charges of reckless discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen firearm. Jones was transported to the Vermilion County Jail.
Jones was denied pre-trial release on August 3, 2026, and remains in custody.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
