Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. thanked citizens on social media last night (Thursday, May 8, 2020) for their participation in a Day of Prayer, plus how they have helped during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Facebook Live, the Mayor asked citizens to think how they can help even more…..
{”What can you do during this time of the COVID outbreak to help other people? And I don’t want you to think only beyond your walls, I want you to think within your walls. How can you improve your family? How can you show more love for your family? How can you show more appreciation for your family?”}
Mayor Williams also outlined some specific things that he wants citizens to do….
{”Number one, I ask you to treat others right. It’s really simple – it doesn’t cost you anything. Treat others right. Do everything you can to shop local to help businesses that are struggling stay afloat. And help those who are in need,” said Mayor Williams. ”But then don’t just stop when this COVID is over and we get free. We’ve got to remember to love and serve all the time. Because if we don’t, we are failing ourselves and we are failing our community.”}
Mayor Williams also said many local food pantries are running low on food. He asked citizens to help restock the pantries by purchasing a few extra items for them while out shopping. And he noted it is a problem that occurs year-round and not just during the pandemic.
