DANVILLE, IL (09/18/2026) We are proud to recognize Professor Brittany Lawson and Professor Christina Smalley for successfully renewing their registered Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credentials through the National League for Nursing (NLN).
Professor Lawson, MSN, RN, CNE, CNEcl, has served as an Assistant Professor at Lakeview College of Nursing since 2019. Professor Smalley, MSN Ed, RN, CNE, has served as an Assistant Professor at Lakeview since 2015. The renewal of their CNE credentials reflects their continued commitment to nursing education and dedication to providing students with knowledgeable, competent, and professionally engaged faculty.
The Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential is a nationally recognized professional certification that identifies nursing education as a specialty area of practice and demonstrates expertise in the full scope of the nurse educator role.
Maintaining the CNE credential requires continued professional development and competency throughout a five-year certification cycle. Earning the credential is not the endpoint, but rather a commitment to continued growth as the profession of nursing education evolves.
Renewal of this credential represents more than the completion of a professional requirement. It demonstrates an educator’s ongoing investment in evidence-informed teaching, student learning, assessment, curriculum, leadership, and professional development. As nursing education continues to change in response to advances in healthcare, technology, pedagogy, and expectations for nursing practice, certified nurse educators commit themselves to remaining current and effective in their roles.
