Free, Family-Friendly Event Pairs Voter Readiness with Civil Rights Education and a Build-Your-Own Sundae Bar
DANVILLE, IL — The ACLU of Illinois, the NAACP Danville Chapter, and Indivisible Vermilion County will co-host a “Power to the People” event on Sunday, September 27 from 3-5:00 PM, bringing families together for civic empowerment, nonpartisan voter readiness, and civil rights education. The event will feature a brief rights-focused presentation on voting access and civil liberties from Hirsh Joshi, ACLU of Illinois Staff Attorney.
The family-friendly gathering is designed to make civic participation welcoming and accessible while offering practical tools for residents to prepare for the upcoming election. Attendees can enjoy a build-your-own sundae bar and stations to check voter registration status, find polling locations, and learn key voting deadlines.
“Voting is one of the most powerful ways communities shape their future,” said Ed Butler, NAACP Danville Chapter President. “We want families to feel confident, informed, and supported as they get ready to cast their ballots.”
During the program, Hirsh Joshi, ACLU of Illinois Staff Attorney, will offer an educational talk on voting rights protections, barriers communities often face, and how residents can document concerns or seek support when navigating public systems. The presentation will be strictly nonpartisan and focused on civil liberties and access.
