THE FOLLOWING RELEASE IS FROM THE MARY CATHERINE ROBERSON CAMPAIGN
URBANA, Ill. (October 5, 2026) — Mary Catherine Roberson, Democratic candidate for Illinois House District 104, is calling for greater transparency from the Champaign County Clerk following the suspension of early voting and the discovery of ballot errors affecting voters across the county.
On Friday, October 2, the Champaign County Clerk suspended early voting, citing technical issues.
Since then, the Roberson campaign has learned that ballots in nine precincts were printed with incorrect races, including the Illinois House District 104 race.
While the errors on in-person ballots have been corrected and early voting has resumed, the campaign has learned that 607 mail-in ballots containing incorrect races have not been returned, and the voters who received those ballots have not yet been notified.
“My incredible volunteers and I are working tirelessly talking to voters because we know every single vote will matter in this race,” Roberson said. “Every voter deserves to know that their ballot is accurate and that their vote will count. We need transparency about what happened, who was affected, and what is being done to make sure every voter has the opportunity to cast a correct ballot.”
Roberson said her campaign is seeking additional information about the scope of the errors and is considering asking the courts for election oversight to ensure affected voters receive appropriate notice and that adequate safeguards are in place to protect the integrity of the election.
“This isn’t about one campaign,” Roberson said. “It’s about making sure voters can have confidence in the process and that every eligible voter has a fair opportunity to cast their ballot.”
