Motorists traveling along North Vermilion Street in Danville over the Memorial Day holiday period will get to see a lot of small American Flags after all. Normally the street is lined with thousands of miniature American Flags, but the Danville Rotary Club’s Board of Directors had said on their Facebook page that Rotary Memorial Way was canceled this year.
The board said it was a difficult decision made due to the uncertain length of the COVID-19 virus outbreak. And the board added it wants to keep all of its wonderful volunteers safe. But now the Rotary Club says the flags will be back this year — but without sponsors being sold.

(In the photo, members of the Danville Rotary Club place flags along North Vermilion Street last year.)
In a post on its webpage, the Rotary Club thanked those who have supported the project in the past and said it will continue in the future.
Normally the Rotary Club lets citizens sponsor a flag for $5 apiece. Small cards are placed with them noting the person who is being honored and their military service information if they served in the armed forces. Money raised from the sponsors is used to support the Vermilion County War Museum, and VA Illiana Health Care System and other community projects which are supported by the Danville Rotary Club.
