The Danville Symphony Orchestra along with Illinois composer Tim Corpus have announced a new crowdfunding project for their new album “Where the Rivers Meet”. This historic project marks the DSO’s 60th anniversary season and coincides with the bicentennial of the city of Danville, Illinois. The album will feature an entirely Illinois-forward program, anchored by the first commercial recording of new large orchestral works by Illinois composer Tim Corpus (b. 1987).
These works include:
“Where the Rivers Meet”: Commissioned by the Danville Symphony Orchestra for the 200th anniversary of Vermilion County and premiered in March 2026. This piece celebrates the rich history of Vermilion County, Illinois.
“Moonshot”: Commissioned and premiered by Schaumburg High School concert band in early 2023 and later arranged for orchestra, this piece celebrates the United States journey in space exploration from the 1950s Apollo missions to the current Artemis program.
“An Illinois Rhapsody”: A brand new piano concerto for Illinois pianist Alyssa Arrigo celebrating Illinois and its historic traditions in the arts.
“I am so excited to be partnering once again with the DSO and bringing this piece back to audiences”, shared composer Tim Corpus. “We had a terrific response at the world premiere and I know this orchestra is going to put together an incredible recording.”
Scheduled to record in January 2027 at the Krannert Center at the University of Illinois, this album will be the first-ever studio recording by the Danville Symphony and is scheduled to be released in June 2027. The Krannert Center was the home to several acclaimed recordings by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Georg Solti.
The crowdfunding campaign aims to raise additional funds to support the recording and distribution of the album. The Danville Symphony Orchestra also received a true kickstart for this project with a Creative Project Grant from the Illinois Arts Council.
