CATLIN — Having been in the real estate industry for more than 40 years, both building and selling houses, Betty Gauze knows what she wants in her own.
Thus she’s in the process of having her next little piece of heaven custom built to her liking, after selling her Champaign home and returning to Catlin.
Her new home will have the architectural details of a barndominium, such as tall ceilings and garage doors, will feature some of her antique furniture yet also will include a few flourishes of modern design — a black front door, shutters and garage doors and cedar on the porches.
“The plan that I picked out online and then tweaked a hundred times was a barndominium. The barndominium basically just means you have one structure with everything pretty much in line and it means that your garage is going to probably be good size because of the barn concept,” Gauze said.
She said her garage feels more like a barn, with its larger size, and “everything is tall here.”
