A new Vermilion County Animal Shelter could see a potential groundbreaking in the spring, behind its current site on Catlin-Tilton Road, with the full county board’s approval next week on a design-build.
The county’s property committee and health and education committee on Wednesday approved authorizing Vermilion County Board Chairman Steve Miller’s office and shelter Director Ryan Goodner to initiate a design-build of a new building at the present facility at 14775 Catlin-Tilton Road. The full county board will act on the resolution at its 6 p.m. Tuesday meeting at the Joseph G. Cannon Building, 201 N. Vermilion St., Danville.
Goodner said the new proposed animal control facility, just shy of 12,000 square feet, would be located in the wooded area behind the current building, which is just shy of 11,000 square feet.
The building is to have state-of-the-art dog and cat housing units with easily disinfected durable walls and flooring; state-of-the-art heating, ventilation and watering systems; necessary animal medical care facilities; and appropriate dog and cat adoption facilities.
