New gambling legislation approved by Illinois lawmakers during their special session includes ‘sort of an insurance policy’ for a new Danville casino. It allows the City of Danville to submit a second application to the Illinois Gaming Board if it rejects the initial proposal from Haven Gaming.
State Representative Mike Marron of Fithian thanked the bill’s sponsor, State Representative Bob Rita of Blue Island for his work on the measure….
{‘’As everybody knows, myself, my predecessors, two of my predecessors before me have worked extensively on the Danville casino. And it’s something that’s critically important to economic development in my district. And so, what the language would simply do – if for some reason the applicant that’s before the Gaming Board would not have their application approved, it would reset the clock and give Danville a second shot – which is so critically important to my district,’’ said Marron.}
Governor J.B. Pritzker says he will sign the bill. He noted the bill paves the way for a new Chicago casino. ‘’I look forward to signing this legislation that provides a reliable funding stream to our historic $45-billion dollar Rebuild Illinois capital program,’’ said the Governor.
