Other than two stores being broken into, the evening was a quiet one in Danville.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says looters used a sledgehammer, bats and rocks to break into the Stock and Field location on North Vermilion Street as well as Burlington Coat Factory at the Village Mall. Danville police and the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department arrested at least eight people in the incident. He says a car abandoned by the group is registered to a Champaign address.
Williams wrote on social media this morning “Please don’t let this trash sully the great things we accomplished today & are moving towards in the future!”
