Plans for a proposed Medicinal/Adult Use Cannabis Cultivation Center at 3700 East Main Street cleared the Danville Area Planning and Zoning Commission this afternoon. The Commission is recommending the Danville City Council approve a Special Use Permit needed for the project. It must also be approved by the Illinois Department of Agriculture in a process that is described as very competitive.
Attorney Andrew Mudd, on behalf of petitioner Alexander Real Properties, LLC told Commission members paperwork for the proposal was submitted about six weeks ago to the Illinois Department of Agriculture. He added the petitioner hopes to break ground this year on the wholesale craft grower business that would be located directly west of the Danville Correctional Center and east of the McLane Midwest Distribution Center.
If approved the new cannabis cultivation center would distribute its cannabis strictly to licensed dispensaries throughout Illinois. The 44.66 acre site is currently zoned I-2 General Industrial Use.
The Danville City Council is expected to consider the request for the Special Use Permit at its June 16th meeting.
