More people have been disregarding wearing protective masks in our area lately but the Vermilion County Health Department warns the COVID-19 coronavirus is not gone yet. County Health Administrator Douglas Toole talked about it on WDAN Radio’s Newsmakers program…
{”It’s tricky now because we are reopening things…we’ve been living with this for a few months now. But those precautions are still needed,” said Toole. ”We’re trending in the right direction. …We’ve been a couple of days with no deaths in our region related to COVID. Statewide the number of positive cases is going down, even though the number of people getting tested is going up. There are all real positive things but we’re not all the way through the woods yet.”
Melissa Rome, Emergency Planning and Preparedness Coordinator for the Vermilion County Health Department, says large crowds are still a concern….
{”We do worry about the crowds. And we do worry about those who have been involved in the protests whether they were peaceful or not. So it is a good idea – if you have been involved in the protests – to get tested,” said Rome. ”The community-based testing just opened up to anyone and everyone. Whether you are asymptomatic, whether you know that you’ve been exposed – pretty much they just want you to get tested. We want you to get tested,” added Rome.}
Toole announced Friday that another positive case of COVID-19 coronavirus has been found in the county….raising the total number of cases to 44. The latest is a Vermilion County resident in their seventies.
