The Vermilion County Health Department says no new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the county on Wednesday. However Health Department Administrator Douglas Toole reported the number of total positive cases in the county has been corrected, and now stands at 43.
(County Health officials had reported the number was 48 earlier this week.)
Toole says since the County Health Department started tracking the numbers it has been determined that 5 cases that had been placed in the ‘COVID-19 Positive’ data base by labs should have instead been placed in the ‘Negative’ file.
‘’Since we started tracking COVID-19 cases, 5 cases listed as positive turned out to be negative (generally because they were accidentally input into the ‘COVID-19-positive’ database by the labs,’’ said Toole. In addition he says 18 cases that were initially assigned to Vermilion County have been transferred to other areas where they actually live (generally Champaign County, the Chicago area, or Indiana) after they were contacted as part of the Vermilion County Health Department’s contact tracing efforts.
Of the 43 positive cases which have been diagnosed in Vermilion County (since tracking the numbers began), 34 of those people have been released from isolation, 5 are in home isolation, 3 are hospitalized and one died earlier this year.
