The Champaign County Sheriff’s Department is mourning the unexpected death of a young deputy. Sheriff’s Deputy Taylor Briggs was only 22-years-old when he died shortly after 10:30 last night (June 25, 2020) at Carle Foundation Hospital from a suspected medical issue, according to Sheriff Dustin Heuerman. Deputy Taylor was off duty at the time.
‘’While only a Deputy for a short amount of time, Deputy Briggs was a true public servant, was compassionate, and always had the best interest of Champaign County residents at heart. He will be greatly missed,’’ said Sheriff Heuerman in an email sent to our newsroom.
The Champaign County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy into the death.
