The Vermilion County Health Department received a report of 8 new cases of COVID-19 coronavirus being confirmed for the county Monday (June 29, 2020). The county now has had 62 positive cases, 5,677 negative cases and two deaths. But Douglas Toole, Administrator for the Health Department, also noted the county is seeing a lot more testing. Toole says there were some 300 more negative test results between Friday and Monday, and the county’s positivity rate remains low….
{”Right now our positivity rate is well below two-percent, which is good,” said Toole. ”Of the thousands of people we’ve tested in the county so far – only about two-percent of them are coming back positive.”}
Toole also noted that some of the new cases that tested positive are related to other positive cases….
{”One group of three is related as family. One positive we got this week is married to someone who tested positive last week. And then one who tested positive over the weekend works at a place in Champaign County that’s had a number of positive cases,” said Toole during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.}
And Toole adds families need to be careful if they plan to go watch fireworks….
{”Even though it’s a holiday – the disease is still out there. So, going outside and watching the fireworks, or just taking advantage of the warmer weather is fine,” said Toole, ”but continue to be very conscious of social distancing and trying to keep a bit of a distance between you and others. And use that hand sanitizer. Use that hand soap.”}
Toole added Vermilion County has been fortunate because there has been no cluster of cases.
