Even though some political rhetoric and case situations might seem to suggest that the coronavirus pandemic is on the decline, Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says the virus is still out there and people should continue to stay safe.
Toole was a guest on Linda Bolton’s Newsmakers Monday morning. He says some people are concerned about going to stores because masks aren’t required.
“There are customers out there that are making decisions about where they’re going to shop and where they’re going to eat based on how seriously the employers can manage things.”
Toole also responded to a question about why the Vermilion County Health Department is not releasing information about what towns have positive cases, as Champaign County is doing. He says privacy laws do not allow names to be released, and some of the information should be left alone.
“We’ve got to publicize who’s got the disease, and some very vague information, but we’re not going to make it very public. Your private medical information is going to stay private.”
