A Westville woman has died after accidentally being shot by a young child handling a gun.
64-year-old Marita Hile was pronounced dead at 1:22 p.m. Sunday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
investigators say Hile was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle when a handgun accidentally fired, striking her in the back. The child reportedly found the gun inside the vehicle.
Hile’s death is being investigated by the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Office and the Vermilion County Coroner.
