After returning to in-person meetings July 7th, Danville City Council meetings will go back to teleconferencing for the foreseeable future.
Aldermen voted 8-4 in a straw poll to continue meeting by phone until the COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end.
Tuesday night’s meeting was initially set to be an in-person meeting at City Hall, but was moved online after an employee was potentially exposed to the virus.
Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. says he is awaiting test results to see if an exposed city employee has the virus or not.
Some aldermen said they believed in-person meetings could still work in a larger location. Alderman Brenda Brown suggested the city move its meetings to Palmer Arena. But Mayor Williams said the arena does not have an adequate sound system to be able to record meetings online.
Alderman Steve Foster suggested that the city purchase laptops for each council member to use during meetings. Aaron Troglia said virtual meetings might not work well if the council has controversial topics to discuss, as those would likely have high public comment.
