Some of the Danville’s residents gained back jobs over the last month, leading to a slight decrease in the unemployment rate.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security announced Thursday that Danville’s June unemployment rate is 14.3 percent. That rate is down 1.8 percent from the May unemployment rate of 16.1 percent, but is still up almost nine percent compared with last year’s rate of 5.4 percent.
The Danville area had an unemployment rate of 12.3 percent, which is the highest on record for the month of June.
Non-farm employment decreased by -1,400 compared to last June.
Manufacturing (-300), Professional-Business Services (-300), Other Services (-300), and Government (-200) sectors recorded the largest employment declines compared to one year ago. The Wholesale Trade (+100) sector reported payroll gains.
