A former District 118 special education teacher faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a student.
Chelsea Robinson, 30, pled guilty Wednesday in Vermilion County Circuit Court to one Class 2 felony count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Judge Nancy Fahey ordered Robinson to complete a sex-offender evaluation before her sentencing date, which is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23.
Robinson was arrested in August 2018 after a male student came forward to police alleging Robinson had a sexual relationship with him earlier that year while she was employed as a special education teacher at Danville High School.
District 118 officials immediately suspended Robinson without pay and later dismissed her from her teaching position.
The student later sued the school district, alleging district officials didn’t protect him from Robinson.
