Concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 virus have prompted a number of cancellations in our area, including Sunday’s scheduled Maple Syrup Open House at Forest Glen. The Vermilion County Health Department says there have been no confirmed or suspected cases of the virus in our county. However Governor JB Pritzker recommended Thursday that all events where 250 to 1000 people are expected should be cancelled or postponed.
Due to the Governor’s request, the Vermilion County Conservation District has cancelled its Maple Syrup Open House event which had been scheduled for Sunday, March 15th, 2020. ‘’This decision is disappointing to make, but the safety of our visitors, volunteers, community and staff is our highest priority,’’ said a statement released by the Conservation District.
Although the Open House is cancelled, maple syrup sales will continue. Syrup will be available for purchase at the maintenance building at Forest Glen from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday (March 15th). It will also be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Forest Glen and Kennekuk Visitor Centers (while the supply lasts).
