Danville Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. has announced that due to the COVID-19 threat, all Danville city buildings will be closed to the public from Monday, March 16th, 2020 through Sunday, March 29th, 2020.
Tuesday’s regularly scheduled Danville City Council meeting on March 17th will be held, however, and is the only exception where the public will be allowed to attend.
The Mayor said he is thankful to announce that as of Friday, March 13th at 6:00 p.m., there continued to be no cases of COVID-19 / Coronavirus in Danville or Vermilion County. ‘’We are doing everything in our power to ensure that it stays that way while continuing to provide you with excellent service,’’ said the Mayor.
In addition to closing the buildings to the public, Mayor Williams announced:
- All city staff will report to work to continue to maintain normal operations.
- Any reports and/or money due to the city during this time will receive a 14-day extension of submission without penalty.
- City staff will continue to be available via email and telephone during normal business hours.
- The Mayor says the City of Danville has implemented and encourages residents to follow best practices outlined by the Illinois Department of Public Health at http://dep.illinois.gov/topics-services/diseases-and-conditions/diseases-a-z-list/coronavirus and the Centers for Disease Control at https://www.edc.gov/coronavirus/2049-ncov/index.html.
The Mayor added that in this time of uncertainty, he encourages residents to remain diligent yet calm.
