After deciding to stay open earlier this month even after a positive COVID-19 case at the school, Westville school district officials have now decided to suspend in-person learning at Judith Giacoma Elementary School.
The district sent a message to parents Sunday night saying another student has tested positive for the virus. They say the risk of exposure to other students and staff was minimal, but they have decided to move to remote learning for Giacoma School students until September 28th.
Students at Westville High School and Westville Junior High School will still continue to attend in-person.
Giacoma is the third Vermilion County public school to temporarily suspend in-person learning because of positive COVID-19 cases. Salt Fork High School suspended in-person learning for the first two weeks of September, and Oakwood Grace School temporarily closed for three days on August 31st due to positive cases.
