Less than a week after Liberty Elementary School went to remote-only learning due to an employee exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, a second District 118 school has been shut down.
Superintendent Alicia Geddis says Mark Denman Elementary School students will only learn remotely for the next two weeks after a COVID scare at that building. She also says the district is “very, very close” to implementing full remote learning once again.
Geddis urged students and staff members should wear face masks, maintain social distancing and not come to school if they have symptoms of COVID-19. She made the remarks during an emergency school board meeting Saturday afternoon.
Speaking on behalf of Assistant Superintendent John Hart, Geddis says students should only ride the bus to school if they have no other means of transportation. She says parents should drive their kids to school unless they cannot do so. The state mandates District 118 provide bus transportation, and in-person classes cannot be held if bus transportation is halted.
