Despite all of the concern over the Coronavirus, Tuesday’s (March 17, 2020) Illinois Primary Election will proceed. Illinois voters will be trimming the list of candidates who will face off in the November General Election. And a question on the ballot in Vermilion County will decide whether voters support a 1-percent hike in sales taxes to support schools. Some districts have pledged to lower property taxes if the sales tax hike is approved.
And if you would like to vote early or by mail – it’s not too late. Both the Danville Election Commission and Vermilion County Clerk’s Office will be open today for voter registration and early voting. You do not have to give a reason as to why you are voting early, but Sandy Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, and Lindsey Light, Chief Deputy in charge of elections for the Vermilion County Clerk’s Office, say they realize that due to the caronavirus threat many people would rather vote early instead of at their normal polling place.
Both offices are located at the Vermilion County Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion in downtown Danville. Both say steps are being taken to make sure the polling places are safe. Those polling places will be open from 6:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
