A man in his 70’s is the fifth Vermilion County resident to die from COVID-19.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, and to the others impacted by this disease,” Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says.
Toole also announced 31 new cases Thursday afternoon, meaning the number of active cases is 123 and the total number of cases is 731.
The new cases are:
- One person in their 80’s
- Six people in their 70’s
- Two people in their 60’s
- Two people in their 50’s
- Three people in their 40’s
- Six people in their 30’s
- Three people in their 20’s
- Six teenagers
- One grade-school-aged child
- One preschooler.
Seven Vermilion County residents are hospitalized with the virus.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 2,166 new cases and 25 deaths Thursday afternoon, bringing the state’s totals to 295,440 cases and 8,696 deaths.
Region 6’s positivity rate excluding Champaign County is 7.2 percent, an increase of one tenth of a percent from yesterday.
