The Carle at the Riverfront project is moving along with planned improvements to some of the streets in the area.
Danville city council members voted Tuesday night to appropriate $400,000 in motor fuel tax funds for engineering services for some of the roadways impacted by the project.
City Engineer Sam Cole says the city is taking a “logical and coordinated approach” to the project with Carle, and engineering is for the streets that will still remain once the project is completed.
Cole says roadwork along Madison Street is estimated to be complete in the second half of 2021, with the rest of the streets being completed in the following two to three years.
Southbound traffic on Logan Avenue will be rerouted onto Madison Street, but he says the stoplight at the intersection with Main Street will remain until after construction is completed, as that is under the direction of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Council members also approved a grant application for funding for pedestrian walkways near the intersection of Bowman Avenue and Voorhees Street. Mayor Williams says the planned walkways will better connect residents to Holiday Hills and Dollar General in that area.
