Saturday’s annual electronics collection event for Vermilion County residents is being termed a big success. Doug Toole, Administrator of the Vermilion County Health Department, helped direct it….
{‘’It went very, very, very well,’’ said Toole. ‘’The weather cooperated, we had a great team, and a lot of very patient people brought us some very old dusty televisions.’’…’’We’ve counted up the cars so far – we saw 627 – that’s up about two dozen from last year.’’}

The vehicles snaked through the campus of Danville Area Community College before reaching the point where their items were unloaded….
{We’ve been using this team – it’s a contractor from Dynamic out of Wisconsin. And they’re very professional – they know what they’re doing, but we’ve got some local folks who come in and help. Local workers are helping and local volunteers to keep the line moving.’’}

Toole says the 627 vehicles that participated dropped off 1,421 televisions – an increase of 216 from last year. They also took 320 monitors (down slightly from last year), plus lots of other stuff according to Toole.
The recycling event is a joint effort of the Vermilion County Health Department and Keep Vermilion County beautiful. Toole praised Danville Area Community College, which he said provides the perfect spot to hold it. And Toole noted it’s amazing the way the site changes in just a matter of hours….
{‘’Its funny because at 6:30 in the morning when I get here – all that’s on the lot are three porta-potties and a roll-off box. You get 627 people come through (with) all these televisions – all these monitors, all this equipment. And by 2:30 its all off-site,’’ added Toole.
The event was scheduled to run from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m., but lasted an additional three hours because of the massive turnout.
