Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says city crews are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best as a potential ice storm takes aim on the area. The Mayor talked with VermilionCountyFirst.com News about storm preparations on Thursday. ‘’We’re going to get out on Friday afternoon. Our crews will be pre-treating on Friday – particularly bridges, intersections and up hills – and then we will have someone who will be on watch throughout the entire event. As we start to see the ice move into our area either overnight Friday or into Saturday morning, that’s when we will dispatch our seven-route crew,’’ said the Mayor. ‘’And we’re actually going to use a mix of salt and grit to provide traction in the ice.’’
The Mayor also encouraged residents to check on neighbors, especially if they are elderly, to make sure they are safe in the storm. And also make sure you take your pets indoors so they are safe.
As of Friday morning the National Weather Service in Lincoln was calling for a Winter Storm Watch to go in effect at 6:00 p.m. today and last through Sunday morning. The Watch simply means that conditions are favorable for the possible development of freezing rain, sleet and snow that could make travel hazardous.
