A crew from the CSX Railroad was on the scene of where at least three cars of a freight train derailed this morning (Monday, January 23rd) on Danville’s north side. There were no injuries and no hazardous substances spilled. Danville Firefighters were not even called to the scene. Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says the derailment occurred when a stopped train was apparently hit by a second train.
The location where the derailment occurred is in the area of the 2800 block of Country Way in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
Some neighbors said they heard the noise. They went outside and found where some of the train cars had left the tracks.
The derailment also caused the crossing on Liberty Lane to be blocked by other cars on the train for awhile.
