The City of Danville is planning to change its sewer billing structure and rates in the near future.
The changes will be outlined during two public presentations next week, both at the city council chamber in the basement of City Hall (17 W. Main St.), which will allow for residents to ask questions to city officials about the proposed changes and how it will affect them.
- Tuesday, October 27th at 10:30 a.m.
- Wednesday, October 28th at 1:30 p.m.
City Engineer Sam Cole tells Vermilion County First News that he is still finalizing the details of what the proposed changes will be, but he says the city is planning on replacing some of its sewer assets in the next year, something Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. said in an interview Thursday with Linda Bolton. Cole says the presentations will cover what the city needs to do with regard to its aging sewer infrastructure, and how to achieve that goal.
Cole says the sewer bills will likely increase, although billing is controlled by the Danville Sanitary District. He says the city is trying to figure out how many sewers actually need to be replaced.
Anyone planning on attending either presentation is asked to call 217-431-2321 by 3:30 p.m. Monday to ensure their attendance due to COVID-19 restrictions. Cole says he will also outline the changes during the virtual public services committee meeting Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
